Week 2 Completed: EU-Ying De Joint Accelerator Programme

29 June – Moderated by Professor Xiong Yu, Week 2 of the EU-funded Accelerator Programme led by Ying De was successfully completed. This week focused on the changes facing the technology industry today and the technological innovations that are leading them, as well as creating a better understanding of the relationship between the technology industry and zero or low carbon emissions. The mentors for this session included Simon Edmondson, advisor and former chair (the North West region) of the Federation of Small Businesses; Dr. George Wang, a construction industry expert with 20 years of experience; and Professor Kiran Fernandes of Durham University.

First to open the session was Simon as he introduced FSB’s policies on supporting SMEs in achieving low-carbon emission.  Having been involved in numerous technology projects in different sectors and drawing on his extensive experience in innovation and financial support, he was able to share relevant cases and explain the main factors for the sustainable development of SMEs.

Next to share his extensive insights was Dr. George Wang, who shared his many years of experience in the construction industry with the participants. Using various case studies, he introduced the challenges in the manufacturing process for zero carbon housing, and the future design and control of the zero carbon housing transformation.

Finally, Professor Kiran Fernandes of Durham University shared his research on the sustainable development goals of SMEs and how to better manage their supply chain, and provided detailed analyses for some specific cases.

The two-hour accelerator lecture ended with a lively discussion between the mentors and the participating companies.
