Everbright Group has completed the acquisition of the award-winning George Hotel in Cumbria from Lake District Hotels Limited for an undisclosed seven-figure sum, according to Lei Ma, Director of the hotel operator arm under the Manchester-based Ying De Group.
Built in the late 16th Century, the Grade II listed property comprising 35 en-suite bedrooms, a bar and a Two Rosettes AA award restaurant. The hotel is the recipient of a “Four Star Guest Accommodation” award from Visit England, and ranks as Penrith’s “best value hotel” on TripAdvisor. Its prime location within Penrith’s town centre and proximity to the Lake District enable the hotel to enjoy a mix of corporate and leisure clientele throughout the week.
Ma said: “The building is more than 400 years old and steeped in history. We have plans to make some minor alterations to the hotel which will freshen up and enhance the appeal of this already popular and renowned hotel.” All existing staff at the hotel have been retained.
The George Hotel became the latest addition to the fast-expanding portfolio under Everbright Group. Since its founding in 2015, the Group have already acquired the Rossett Hall Hotel in Wrexham, the Wild Pheasant Hotel in Llangollen and the Stonecross Hotel in Kendal, which is the Group’s first hotel in Cumbria.
